| Forme | Emploi | Exemple |
|---|---|---|
| will + base verbale | Décision immédiate, promesse, prévision | I will send you the file right away. Sales will probably rise. |
| be going to + base | Intention déjà décidée, prévision fondée sur un indice | We are going to hire two engineers. Look at the queue: we are going to be late. |
| Présent continu | Rendez-vous, projet organisé | I am meeting the client on Friday. |
| Présent simple | Horaire, programme officiel | The seminar begins at 9 a.m. tomorrow. |
| be about to / be due to | Imminent / prévu officiellement | The plane is about to land. The report is due to be published in May. |
Futur continu et futur antérieur
- Futur continu (will be + -ing) : action en cours à un moment du futur. At 3 p.m., I will be giving a presentation, so I can’t answer the phone.
- Futur antérieur (will have + participe passé) : action terminée avant un moment du futur. By the end of the year, we will have opened ten stores.
« By + date future » (by next Friday, by the end of the month) appelle souvent le futur antérieur : By June, the renovation will have been completed.
Le piège des propositions de temps
Après when, as soon as, once, before, after, until, by the time et if, l’anglais met le présent (ou le present perfect) même pour parler du futur. Le futur reste dans l’autre partie de la phrase.
- We will contact you as soon as the parts arrive.Pas « will arrive » après as soon as
- Once the contract is signed, production will start.Présent passif après once
- You can leave when you have finished the report.Present perfect : action terminée avant
- The board won’t decide until all the reports have been reviewed.until + present perfect passif
Piège : « When will the shipment arrive?
