So avec un adjectif, such avec un nom, too et enough et leur place : les règles et les pièges du TOEIC.

So et such veulent dire « si » ou « tellement », too veut dire « trop », enough « assez ». Le TOEIC teste surtout le mot qui suit : un adjectif seul ou un groupe nominal ? La règle tient en un tableau.
Mot
Suivi de
Exemple
so
un adjectif ou un adverbe seul
The demand was so high that we ran out of stock.
such (a / an)
un groupe nominal (adjectif + nom)
It was such a successful launch that we hired more staff.
too
un adjectif ou un adverbe (+ to + verbe)
The room is too small to host 50 people.
enough
après un adjectif, avant un nom
The room is big enough. We have enough chairs.
So… that et such… that
Les deux annoncent une conséquence : « tellement… que ». Avec un nom singulier dénombrable, n’oublie pas l’article : such a long meeting. Avec un pluriel ou un indénombrable, pas d’article : such long meetings, such good advice.
Too et enough
too + adjectif : un excès, souvent négatif. The price is too high for our budget.
adjectif + enough : suffisamment. The quality is good enough for export.
enough + nom : assez de. We don’t have enough time.
Les deux se prolongent avec for + personne ou to + verbe : too expensive for us, old enough to vote.
Piège : enough se place après l’adjectif : « qualified enough », jamais « enough qualified ». Mais avant le nom : « enough candidates ».
Piège : too n’est pas very : « The hotel is very expensive » (c’est cher), « The hotel is too expensive » (trop cher pour nous, on ne le prendra pas).
